The 1740 Cottage was located in Lunenberg County, Virginia, scheduled for demolition. The preservation conscious Peebles purchased the house in 1983, dismantled it, and had it moved to the Lisburne estate in Gloucester County, where is was restored piece by piece using much of the original construction. The 1740 Cottage is a perfect example of historic preservation with many elements of the original house displayed - original clapboard, accurate wood shingled roof, hand cut nails, heart pine floors, and original brick and windows. The kitchen and bath were, or course, later additions. | | | 1740 House Side View | | 1740 Back Entrance
